Natural Carbon Solutions Contribute to Halting Climate Change

May 18, 2023

Dr. Patrick Gonzalez, climate change scientist, forest ecologist, and Executive Director of the UC Berkeley Institute for Parks, People, and Biodiversity, discusses how halting deforestation, conserving parks, and adopting a plant-rich diet reduce climate change, in the May 15, 2023 issue of Parks Stewardship Forum https://doi.org/10.5070/P539260953.

He states “Halting deforestation would reduce global carbon pollution 10%, essential for achieving the global of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Published research and field experience show that national parks and protected areas are one of the most effective means to reduce deforestation. Furthermore, global adoption of a plant-rich, meat-free diet, which I have done, could cut global greenhouse gas emissions 40% and reduce climate change, protecting people and nature.”
