April 26, 2024

The U.S. National Park Service organized the Pacific West Region Natural Resource Stewardship Training Workshop April 22-26, 2024 at Golden Gate National Recreation Area, San Francisco, California. The workshop brought together national park professionals from across the western U.S. and Pacific Islands to learn the latest science innovations for effective conservation of national parks.

Two scientists of the UC Berkeley Institute for Parks, People, and Biodiversity assisted the National Park Service. Dr. Patrick Gonzalez gave a plenary presentation “Pacific West Action for Global Progress on Human-Caused Climate Change and Ecosystem Integrity” and discussed climate change science and solutions with participants throughout the week. Patrick had previously worked with many attendees as NPS Principal Climate Change Scientist. Dr. Arthur Middleton spoke in a training session on large landscape conservation. Arthur shared from his extensive research on wildlife conservation in the greater Yellowstone ecosystem.
